Ski Trip Vacation

We took a trip to Winter Park with some friends of ours and a few of their friends and family. There were 8 adults and 2 kids in total. We had a great time! Rebekah was a wonderful traveler (for the most part!). We had a babysitter for 2 days so we could ski and the babysitter was great! Then we spent Sunday as a family day...went to Mass, had breakfast, went on a sleigh ride, then hung out in the town for a bit. We also got to see our friend Alan in Denver on the way back to the airport. It was a great trip!

5 Month Update

While we were on vacation, Rebekah turned 5 months old!

We had lots of exciting happenings during this month!

We started playing in the exersaucer


We went to work with Mommy


We visited Grandad's office


We ate some more solid foods


And we found a new favorite sleeping position - on her belly with her knees tucked up under her!

2011.01 Rebekah Month 5

We have already had a fun beginning of 6 months...she is so good at grabbing toys and we have been practicing sitting up! Stay tuned!

1st Snow & 1st Food

A few weeks ago (Jan 9th to be exact) we had a day of firsts with Rebekah. She saw her first snow, and she had her first solid food! We had a great little family day at home and captured some of the fun.

We got all bundled up


and played in the snow with mommy and daddy


(I know there's not much snow....it just didn't stick in the city and we waited too long to get out there when the snow was falling!)

Then...Rebekah tried her first rice cereal!


She loved it!

Rebekah Month 4

Rebekah turned 4 months on December 23...so this is a bit late, but at least I got to it!

We had a great December with Rebekah. Here are some highlights:

She learned how to play in the bumbo


She got better at pushing up


She volunteered with Catholic Charities


She got to meet her friend Brady and mommy's friend Valerie


She rolled from front to back a few times


Tried so hard to scoot herself around


And she loved looking at herself in the mirror!

2010.12 Rebekah Month 4

Rebekah's 1st Christmas!

I've seen lots of Christmas posts from my friends, so I guess I'm not that late. :)

We've been shifting the way we store and access photos in our house so that we can both access them equally. It has cause some minor disruptions in my ability to efficiently work with the pictures. I'm not 100% sure I'm satisfied with the way it is working, but I was able to sift through all the Christmas pictures to put together a post.

So, here's a recap of our Christmas season with Rebekah!

We visited Santa at Northpark

From 2010.12 - Christmas Season

We did Christmas with the Billmeier's the Sunday before Christmas since everyone was going in different directions. We skyped with Uncle Tony in England and Uncle Justin and Aunt Jess in California to open presents. It was fun!


We had Rebekah's first babysitter so we could go to our annual Barley Christmas party. (blurry...still trying to figure out this new fancy camera...


We made cookies!

(don't worry, she was only up on the counter for a second...)

We visited the trains at Northpark with Grandma and Granddad Seibold, cousin Cadence, and Aunt Angie, Uncle Scott, and Landon


Then we spent Christmas Eve and Christmas day with everyone at the Seibold house.


We were so blessed to have Great-Mammaw there for the first time too!


Rebekah did get a small loot from Santa at our house too.


All in all, it was a wonderful 1st Christmas for our little girl!

2010.12 - Christmas Season

Playing at the Park

I'm still working on organizing our sifting through the hundreds (literally) of pictures we took during the Christmas season. Our new camera (thanks Santa!) takes some amazing pictures, but we also take a ton more of them...some of them great...some of them not so good. The files are huge and I'm learning patience while trying to work with them. :) So, here's a fun little post to hold you over...

A couple of weeks ago, our friends Meili and Benji hosted and Karen and Grace & Rebekah and I over to their house for lunch. We had some delicious Cincinnati chili (thanks to Matt!). Then we walked down to the park. It was a fun little stroller brigade going down the street with all 6 of us.

2010.12 - Park with Meili and Karen

All the World's a Phase

My latest “new mom” revelation is that everything we encounter with little Rebekah is probably a phase. I had this revelation a month ago when we were at a friend’s baby’s baptism. I was looking at my nephew – who is so full of energy and always trying to explore everything – and I looked at the older kids who were calmly sitting in the pew attending to what was happening at the baptismal font. I realized that nothing lasts forever, that these little kids get bigger and more mature and more self-sufficient.

With Rebekah, we had an interesting phase about a week ago. She had been so good about sleeping from day one – well, once we could get her to sleep she would stay asleep for a long time. Then, during my second week back to work, she started waking up at 5…then at 4:30…then at 4… Once I discovered she was hungry (and was eating about 10 times during the day too!), I thought “Must be her 3 month growth spurt…this too shall pass.”

And pass it did. One morning we woke up for work and she was still asleep! Adam went to check on her and everything seemed fine. Ever since then her sleeping through the night seems to be back on track…for now. :)

As true as this this phase idea is for the phases we want to pass quickly, it is true for the ones we want to last! I know one day she will be mobile, and as much as I got excited when she rolled over that one time (she hasn’t done it since…), I’m appreciating how easy it is right now because I know she won’t move too far from where I put her down.

And I’m trying to cherish and enjoy the little baby things she does everyday. Like her new obsession with making spit bubbles:

Or her little giggles and baby noises that come when I just look at her with a funny face or make a funny noise:

Or her being able to sit up, but not quite…

Or her being able to push up, but not quite…

I cherish all of this because I know, one day, this too shall pass…
